BARBARA'S KIMBERLEY ADVENTURE - THE FINAL LEG - PART 1

Shell beach/Shark Bay

We went for a sticky to Coral Bay which was just a resort sort of place on a beautiful piece of coastline that was fully booked out and crawling with people.

Found a flat spot to pull up for the night on the side of the road and had a roaring campfire :-)

Knob Hills :-)

Not much out here :-/  for a long, long way..........................

We crossed this at 4.55pm 13/8/13 heading south for the cold :-/

Our first sign of real clouds....was getting cooler by the minute, but still pretty!!

A really weird night sky....the clouds were like this as far as the eye could see :-)

OMG a hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We drove to Monkey Mia the following morning and had a look around and took some pics.

Shell beach where they produce shell grit for chooks and shells for roads......definitely need your sunnies here....it's quite blinding but just beautiful :-)

Shells.......don't go barefoot!!!!!!!!!  they slice right through your feet!!

Monkey Mia

Shark bay

They have a big electric fence and cattle grid that barks at you when you stand on it, at the narrowest point of the peninsula where they are trying to eradicate foxes, feral cats, rabbits and wild goats, of which there are around 34,000......30,000 of which I'm sure we passed on the side of the road. They have also re-introduced the bilby and the mallee fowl, neither of which we spotted :-(

We didn't bother staying as the place is so commercial and we would have had to wait a day to see the dolphins......which we've both seen anyway......

We spent another night on the side of the road with another raging campfire. We brought a heap of marshmallows to toast, but so far we've been way too full from dinner to even open the packets.....might have to wait until we get home and cook them there ;-)

The next morning saw us up and out early...it was definitely getting a lot fresher in the mornings......we stopped at Northampton for coffee......what a beautiful place, and only 50kms from Geraldton. The countryside was so different here but quite stunning.

GM being a lunatic ;-)

Crops

More crops

and more............

and even more........the canola looks like someone painted it on :-)

We did a grocery stock up and met up with my friend Steven and his partner Jen for lunch and a tour of the HMAS Sydney monument......a rather beautiful, but sad thing to see......and then took off again.

Steven and I :-)

Holy Crap!!!!!!!! We'd forgotten to buy booze!!!!!!!!! We've lost the plot!!!!!!!

About half an hour out of Geraldton we experienced our first rain for the trip.....we then sooked and carried on for quite a while. The rain just got worse and worse until we finally pulled up in Moora......the bloody caravan park was full, so we eventually found a spot near the show grounds, had tea cooked between showers, then sat snuggled in the tent with the heater and watched Django Unchained.....this place was bloody freezing and miserable.....oh the joys of winter :-P

But...........we were still friends and still almost having fun ;-)
